Rare Photograph Collections of the Great War and Bibliography

A Collection of Rare Photographs

These rare old photographs taken during and after the Great War were collected by my father after painstaking hours of searching through fleamarkets, carboots and bazaars. Find more about each one as more content is added.

These collections do not appear in authorised history books that I know.

This site’s purpose is to share these historical photos, many of which were taken by German naval officers around Europe. Thankfully, these images have been saved from possible damage or of being lost forever.

Find images of the Zeebruggee Raid on St George’s Day in 1918; Cologne at the closing of the war and a selection of airmen, fighter planes and airships.

Hours of research have been conducted on each image. Some of the information has been garnered from countless books, a bibliography of which is given below.

These photographs have been resized to save space on this site. But the undoctored original scanned photograph can be issued via email at the cost of £2 per image.

The original images are not very big. The scanned images vary between 200 to 600KB

Due to their age, some damage and fading can be found.
